What is Net rating?
Net rating is a team's offensive rating minus its defensive rating: how many points per 100 possessions the team outscores its opponents.
Formula
Net rating = offensive rating − defensive rating
Example
A team with an offensive rating of 106.3 and a defensive rating of 93.8 has a net rating of +12.5.
Why it matters in a league
It is a stronger predictor of future results than the win-loss record in a short season.
