What is Steal?
A steal is credited to a defender who takes the ball from an opponent, or intercepts a pass, and gains possession for their team.

A player with 3 steals in a game created three extra possessions for their team.
Why it matters in a league
Steals are recorded by the scorekeeper in real time, so they are one of the stats most affected by how carefully a game is scored.
