What is Points per game (PPG)?

Points per game is the average number of points a player or team scores each game, found by dividing total points by games played.

Formula

PPG = total points ÷ games played

Example

A player who scores 96 points in 8 games averages 96 ÷ 8 = 12.0 points per game.

Why it matters in a league

PPG is the first number leagues use to rank scorers. Because players miss games, many leagues require a minimum number of games before someone qualifies for the scoring title.
