What is True shooting percentage (TS%)?
True shooting percentage measures scoring efficiency by combining two-pointers, three-pointers and free throws in a single number.
Formula
TS% = points ÷ (2 × (field goal attempts + 0.44 × free throw attempts))
Example
A player with 20 points on 14 field goal attempts and 6 free throw attempts has a TS% of 20 ÷ (2 × (14 + 0.44 × 6)) = 20 ÷ 33.28 = 60.1%.
Why it matters in a league
It is the fairest single number for scoring efficiency, because it counts the free throws that FG% ignores.
